Yuyang(宇阳) XIe
I have a keen interest in researching the fundamentals of intelligence. This includes developing my understanding of biological intelligence and adapting these principles to the design of artificial intelligence.
My name
Yuyang “宇阳” in Chinese stands for the sun in the universe. That was how my parents decided to name me when they saw a ray of sunshine on my face back in 1999 when I was born.
They hope I am sunny and optimistic, just like the symbolism of the sun.
In my favourite Japanese Manga One Piece, the sun god Nika is the warrior of liberation. He is the symbol of freedom. He brings laugh to people.
These are all the valuable traits I hope to carry with my name.
What I am currently doing
I am a PhD candidate at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia, specializing in brain-machine interfaces and implantable neuroprosthetics. I conduct research in the Biomedical Microsystems Lab, led by Dr. David Tsai and Prof. Nigel Lovell.
Our lab focuses on developing cutting-edge microelectronic implantable devices for studying the brain and for therapeutics.
